Felt Noticeboards

Felt is the standard, most widely specified surface for schools, offices and public buildings and for good reason. It's self-healing around pin holes, holds drawing pins and staples securely, comes in a wide range of colours for wayfinding or branding and - critically for fire-rated applications - felt-surfaced boards are readily available in fire-retardant constructions classified to BS EN 13501-1.

Cork Noticeboards

The trade-offs are more significant in a commercial or public building context. Cork is harder to source in a fire-retardant construction that meets BS EN 13501-1, its natural colour is fixed rather than offering wayfinding flexibility, and it can look dated compared to felt or fabric in a modern school or office interior.

Best for: low-footfall areas without fire classification requirements, staff kitchens, or budget-constrained projects where fire rating isn't a specification driver.
